For my bachelor project in Visual Communication at Beckmans College of Design, I explored the themes of friendship, male loneliness, and the transient nature of human connections. This deeply personal project took shape as a book titled BESTFRIENDS4EVER, where I documented my thoughts, memories, and experiences in a raw, stream-of-consciousness style.
At the heart of the project was my belief that friendships naturally come and go—an inevitable cycle that should be embraced rather than mourned. This philosophy is deeply tied to my own experiences of moving frequently between Sweden, Germany, and the US, constantly forming new bonds while leaving others behind.
To materialize this idea, I invited my friends to participate in an intimate act: I tattooed them. Each friend received a single letter, collectively forming the title of my book. Through this act, they became part of the anatomy of my project, both literally and metaphorically. Tattooing, with its permanence and physical closeness, allowed us to create a shared memory—one that would last even if our friendships didn’t. As a final act of commitment to the project, I tattooed the entire title—BESTFRIENDS4EVER—onto myself, creating a chain of friendship tattoos that linked me permanently to each person involved.     The process became a way to reconnect with old friends, many of whom I had drifted apart from, partly due to my studies. Over 36 days, I tattooed 53 friends, spending hours together in an experience reminiscent of the intimate conversations found in barbershops.
The final book documents this journey—capturing my friends, the tattoos, and my reflections on friendship and male loneliness. It stands as both a personal archive and a statement on the way relationships shape us, even as they change.

I printed the title on the spine using a handheld inkjet printer gun to give each copy a unique handmade finish, similarly to how I tattooed all my friends as if i worked at a conveyer belt. Each copy comes with a plastic baggie attached to the cover containing a fresh tattoo needle and a small vessel of ink to invite the reader to tattoo themselves and become my friend. All participants got a free copy with their own used needle instead, which I saved and marked with their name after every session.

During the grad-exhibition a screen was surrounded by the marked baggies to give the viewer an appretiation of the amount of participants. On the screen I played a video of me tattooing myself, interrupted by snippets of interviews and other footage I filmed during my process.

For this project I was awarded the design stipend by EY Doberman. They wrote:
“A work that with its vulnerability, process and amazing craftsmanship, gives us goosebumps. By being deeply personal, he makes us talk about relationships and friendship, while at the same time highliting problems around voluntary and involuntary loneliness. A warm story baked in with cold metal and raw, delicate design choices. We can’t let go of BF4E”.
